Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Águas jurisdicionais de Cabo Verde (national jurisdictional waters).

Recreational and sport spearfishing is permitted throughout Cabo Verde's national jurisdictional waters, except in ports/harbours with vessel manoeuvring activity, within 200 m of bathing beaches/bathers, and in areas prohibited by their own legislation (e.g. protected areas). A licence is required. Source: Decreto-Lei n.º 54/2005, Arts. 12.º and 20.º.

License requiredvia Direcção-Geral das Pescas (Directorate-General of Fisheries)

Apply to the Direcção-Geral das Pescas (or a delegated entity) with a licence application, identity document (or club/association registration), and, for renewals, the prior licence. Minors under 18 need notarised guardian authorisation. Fees set by joint ministerial portaria. Clubs, sport associations and tourism operators may hold licence quotas (Arts. 20.º, 22.º, 25.º).
