Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Village fono / marine reserves and traditional fishing areas (avanui / ulihega).

Areas where a fono (customary fishing prohibition) or marine reserve has been declared by Cabinet with village council concurrence under sections 7-8 of the Domestic Fishing Act 1995, plus traditional bait-fishing grounds where spearfishing is not permitted. Village councils signpost active fono.
